Our Voice journalists win China Daily newspaper awards
Our Voice journalists were honored in the English section of the Campus Newspaper Awards 2013 organised by China Daily. The article “Juggling marriage and study is ‘worth all the pain” in the May Issue, written by Katherine Wu and David Tam, was awarded Best in Campus News Reporting. Andrew Chan was awarded the Best in News Page Design for the Presidential Election special issue published in the November Issue. All recipients received $2,000. They were among a total of 10 students honored for their hard work in both the Chinese and English editions of Our Voice at a ceremony two weeks ago.
New university buildings for students taking shape
To meet the urgent need for additional space for Shue Yan University’s students, the construction of the “Master Program Building” is now in progress and is expected to be completed in 2015. It is located beside the Student Residential and Amenities Complex on Braemar Hill. The construction includes multipurpose halls, media studio, large-scale lecture rooms and additional student hostel. Step out for the CEDAR Barefoot Walk
In hopes to raise the living standard and transform the lives of children in Asia and Africa, the CEDAR Fund, an independent Christian relief and development organization founded in Hong Kong in 1991, organized a barefoot walk with the target of raising $600,000 in total. The walkathon will be held on November 2 from 3:00 – 6:00pm. Participants will gather at the Ma On Shan Methodist Primary School and will walk a circular route through walking through the Ma On Shan Waterfront Promenade at Ma On Shan Park then back to the starting point. Around the world inthe Sedan Chair Race
The Sedan Chair Charity Fund is going to hold their annual fundraising event, The Sedan Chair Race and Bazaar with the theme “Travel around the World” this year. The event will be held on October 27, at the Matilda International Hospital located at the Peak. Each team consists of 4-8 people and one of the teammates will be sitting on the decorated sedan chairs, racing with a total route of 2.1km.
